Contract manufacturers (CMs), also know as Electronic Manufacturing Service (EMS) providers, are critical partners with OEMs in today's marketplace. A CM may not only assemble the circuit card assembly (CCA), they may design the circuit, arrange the layout, develop the test requirements, perform the entire box build, and ship the complete product to the end customer.
Within this partnership, DfR can provide a neutral, third-party assessment of activities to ensure that quality and reliability is assured through the design and manufacturing process.
Specifications:
The bare minimum, and the right price for smaller OEMs, DfR provides the customer with a list of requirements that should be displayed on their assembly drawings.
Documentation:
Based on a foundation of industry best practices and tailored to each company's unique circumstances, DfR helps draft internal documentation for controlling CCA quality, including CCA Specifications, Lot Certification (such as Cleanliness Requirements), and Audit Guidelines.
Audit:
DfR continues our ability to match customer needs by providing a wide range of audit activities, including writing Audit Guidelines, training OEM personnel to perform CCA Audits, and performing one-, two-, or three-day audits that access the quality and technical capability of the CM.
Product Qualification:
Once internal documents are in place and a supplier has been certified, DfR can continue ensuring product quality through our CCA qualification program, including visual inspection, destructive physical analysis (DPA), ion chromatography, and black pad/pad cratering assessment.
