Fourier Transform IR Spectroscopy (FTIR)

DfR Solutions has the capability to perform non-destructive chemical analysis of electronics with Fourier Transform IR Spectroscopy (FTIR).

This technique uses light energy in the IR spectrum to scan and identify contaminants having organic molecular structures. Organic molecules oscillate in distinguishable vibrational energy modes in the IR frequency spectrum, which correspond with matching frequencies from the impinging IR light energy. The intensity of energy given off in the correspondence between the light energy and the molecular compound is measured across a frequency plot. This plot provides the analyst with a means of identifying the elements comprising the contaminant.
