SQUID Microscopy

DfR Solutions uses the Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) technology through the relationship established with Neocera, Inc. SQUID microscopy detects the weak magnetic fields produced from currents to image the paths of the currents through a small area of a circuit assembly or through an IC component package. SQUID technology provides the analysts here at DfR Solutions with an effective method of non-destructive failure mode identification. SQUID microscopy has applications in localizing resistive shorts and opens occurring in IC packages and in printed wiring boards.

SQUID can detect magnetic field as low as 20 picotesla (10-12 tesla). The sensitivity of the SQUID technology allows for the accurate measurement of currents down to 500nA, at a working distance between the sensor and the sample of 400um.
