Thermal Management Review

Temperature has been the vice of electronic systems since the first transistor. DfR Solutions provides a number of different services to our clients to help them manage elevated temperature in electronics systems — all in a cost-effective manner.

FEA

The majority of electronic products and systems today still use conduction, convection, and radiation as the primary cooling paths to reduce temperature. DfR has a number of tools and techniques to assist customers in performing thermal assessments and developing cost-effective thermal management strategies. Our most effective tool allows for rapid assessment of temperature rise on simple PCB structures and identification of critical parameters for heat sink optimization. For more complex simulations, we are able to perform full-scale three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) to capture a wide variety of data from individual components to full avionic systems. We have used our 10+ years of experience in FEA thermal modeling to help customers with upfront design initiatives, reliability predictions, and root-cause analysis investigations.

CFD

DfR has the capability to computationally analyze systems with liquids, gases, and combinations of liquids, gases, and solids. State-of-the-art computational fluid dynamic modeling tools are used to help understand the non-linear behavior pertinent in many fluid systems. These tools and our experience can be used to evaluate the performance of designs and provide insight for improvement.

Uprating

The process of ensuring the reliable operation of devices over a wider temperature range than those specified by the device manufacturer is called uprating. The staff at DfR Solutions has more than 10 years of experience in guiding companies through this process, with a keen understanding of the balance between risk mitigation and cost optimization.
