College Park, MD  December 1, 2008 – DfR Solutions is pleased to announce that Craig Hillman, CEO & Managing Partner, will be at the IPC/JEDEC International Conference on December 8th in Dallas, Texas.  Dr. Hillman will be presenting “Understanding Failure and Root-Cause Analysis in Pb-Free Electronics,” as part of ‘Transitioning to Pb-Free – Strategies for Implementation.’  Dr. Hillman will review failure mechanisms unique to lead-free electronics, and the tools and techniques to identify those mechanisms. Mechanisms will be addressed for component packaging, discrete components, printed circuit boards and interconnects.

Dr. Hillman will especially focus on physics of failure (PoF) based approach will be taken, identifying drivers such as defect-driven, overstress and wear out, and how an understanding of these stress-strength interactions can provide guidance on the appropriate corrective and preventative action. A wide variety of case studies will be presented, including component robustness, creepage corrosion in immersion silver and solder joint failures.

“We are proud of our long-term relationship with the IPC/JEDEC series of Pb-Free International Conferences,” said Dr. Hillman. “The strong response to our course offerings identifies DfR as a leader in Pb-free research, development, and implementation and allows us to continue to educate the electronics industry as a whole.”

While in the area, Dr. Hillman will be speaking at several companies in East Texas on a variety of topics where DfR is the world leader including: failure analysis, Pb-free reliability assurance and prediction, and design for reliability tools and knowledge.  Dr. Hillman has performed more than 500 failure analysis investigations, published more than 40 papers in the area of electronics quality and reliability, and has presented to more than 250 companies and organizations.
